Taken from the famous children book with the same title, this is a story of great adventure of 4 children than went thru the wardrobe to the magical country call Narnia. Lucy, the youngest of the four siblings was the first that discovered it, soon the four of them drawn together in order fulfilling the prophecy that two sons-of-Adam and two daughters-of-Eve came to the Cair Paravel. They’re going to end the endless winter that were cause by the witch that raised herself as the Queen of Narnia.
Narnia is really a magical country, with talking beasts and trees. Aslan is the leader and creator of Narnia (this part was mention in the prequel story, The Magician Nephew). Also in Narnia there are faun, hag, giants, drawft and unicorn.
Review (spoiler warning!!!!):
I heard about Narnia just a couple months ago, before I knew about the movie. A friend of mine bought the Chronicles of Narnia story book and soon I try to find out about it. After I saw the preview, I read the books, because I think in order to understand and enjoy the movie I need to read the book first. When I did my research, some people suggested to read the book chronologically, instead based on the releasing sequence. Which is I found quite good. Since I already read the prequel book, I come to appreciate more the movie, I know why the lamp post there, I know what make the wardrobe becoming the gate to Narnia and I know who create Narnia.
Probably there’s only two things I disappointed on this movie. First, some of the special effect not as smooth as I expect from today’s technology. I can see the screen they use as the back ground on some scenes, which is really disappointing for me. Second, I sort of expect something more from Aslan character. In here, Aslan is to gentle comparing with his potray in the book, he’s too kind and even smiling. Aslan should show more grandness, but still wise and gentle. When he take over Edmund’s place and become the ransom (this is really remind me of the Bible), his face look sad, which is I think he should not. He knew from the beginning what will the end result be. Also when he scolded Edmund, he should not follow him down after, it seems he’s lowering himself for the children, instead the children should be the one that come to him. Just little things I pick up that can make Aslan’s character grandeur. I like the fierceness he show when he finished the witch, Aslan suppose to be wild as a beast should be but wise as an old person would.
Apart from the two above mention, I love the scenenary, the children acting and the special effects on most character. I also like how the witch and Aslan were not full of mambo jumbo while they were talking, it’s all look practical and easy to follow.
The story was twisted a bit, I don’t really remember the beginning of the story, was it really because of the war that the Pevensie children was sent to the country, or were them on their summer break. But the ending was weird, in the book, the children supposed to be the same age when this story end, even when the next 2 story happening. But in the movie, they’ve grown up which is weird.
All in all, I give 3 and ½ stars for this movie. I hope they not planning to make the sequel, because I don’t think the other story will be as exciting as this one, although personally I like The Horse and His boy better than TLTW&TW.
Side note, I reckon Peter Pevensie is cute Edmund too when his wearing the battle suits. Lucy looks cuter with her hair rolls.
