Title

The title was taking from this children game called Fruit Basket where everyone was name after a fruit and each fruit got called for their turn. However when Tohru was young she was excluded by her friend, instead name after a fruit, she was refer as a rice cake (onigiri) therefore she was left out from the game.

Story

Some member of Sohma family were curse that they will turn into one of the animal within the Chinese Zodiac if they were hug by an opposite sex or when they are weak. Tohru Honda, an orphan living by herself in a tent after her mom pass away, found out this secret accidentally. Since she has no where to go, she was staying with three of the Sohma family member, they are Shigeru (dog), Yuki (mouse) and Kyo (cat).

Incident after incident happen in the house, especially when more member of the family taking fancy to her. Tohru was keeping this secret from her friend, whilst she’s in the same class with Yuki and Kyo. Yuki and Kyo are in constant fighting because of the nature of animal they got curse. It was told that cat got tricked by mouse, so cat failed to be a member of the chinese zodiac, Juunshi. But Yuki and Kyo both care so much to Honda in their own way.

Mean while the head of Juunshi Akito, was never approved Honda living with them. But since Akito living in the main house, he has less control over their live. Another hassle also come from school. Some girls in their school start a fan club for Yuki, since Yuki was popular in the school, his nick is Prince Yuki. They never happy seeing Honda so close with Yuki and craft so many trick to her.

Character

Yuki (mouse) – smart, popular, cool and good looking
Kyo (cat) – bad temper, easily angry. He especially despised Yuki and in constant fighting with him
Shigeru (dog) – pervert, easy going, but he’s a good mediator.
Kagura (boar/pig) – she loves Kyo and always chase after him despite his rejection
Hatori (horse) – the family doctor who was caring. He has the ability to deleting people memory, especially when they found out about the family secret.
Momiji (hare/rabbit) – always happy although his mother’s memory of him been deleted. He’s wearing girl uniform
Hatsuharu (cow) – has this ‘black mood’ from time to time and will fight with Kyo. But he’s also a caring person
Kisa (tiger) – she’s become a victim of bullying in her school but found strength from Honda’s supports.
Hiro (sheep) – cynical, believe himself to be coward because he feel he failed in looking after Kisa.
Ayame (snake) – Yuki’s older brother. Dress up like a girl and like to brag. He admired Hatori so much.
Ritsu (monkey) – was a guy brought up as a girl and don’t have any self confidence. He thought every things goes wrong because of his existence.
Akito (dragon) – he’s bitter over people happiness especially those who were curse, it’s because he burden the biggest load on the curse and will die young.

Uotani Arisa – ex member of girls gang and befriend with Honda’s mom, who also member of girls gang.
Hanajima Saki – has a special wave transmitting power. She has a crush toward Yuki but she love her friend Honda more.

Verdict

I like the story and the morale they telling. Also it’s very entertaining watching the series as it goes. My fave is Yuki-kun and Honda-kun. Some character pretty weird, look like girl and dressing up too, but I suppose that typical Japanese shojo. Must see anime shojo for me.
