Not everyone, but yes, probably the majority of Chinese Indo speaks (or at least can listen to) Fuchienhua.
This is due to the course of immigration that took place a bit more or less 100 years ago. Some just looking for better lives, while some are avoiding war and political unrest. Some from Fuchien, as you might have guessed, some from other area (the most famous one is Hakka). They landed on different area, thus creating different dialects. For examples, Chinese Indo in North Andalas and the ones in South Andalas both speak Fuchien but their dialects have been somewhat mixed up with local dialect. Chinese Indo in Halang island will speak Hakka, while most of the ones in Jakarta (really born here) will almost lost the ability to speak any Chinese branch of dialects.

Nenek... Tui bu chi, wo bu zhe tau ni she han guo ren. Wo siang ni shi Inni ren...:)

Here is the rough translations:

I think most of Yonny's friends know how to speak Hokkien....

Hokkien has been spoken in Penang (Malaysia) and Singapore. These towns are near to Medan North Sumatra capital where all the Chinese people speak Hokkien including the India native, they speak hokkien very well. If we look at Banda Aceh and langsa …(Aceh province) most of the indoneisan Chinese speak hakka. Palembang speaks mandarin and Jakarta speaks Hakka. In borneo indoneisan chinese speak Teow Chew….

Toronto is comparable with other part of Malaysia the Chinese people speak more Cantonese than Mandarin… now are days, Toronto got a lot of immigrant from mainland and most all of them speak mandarin. So Mandarin will be more popular in coming years.
