1. Ru Ping was timid and shy person. Not even character development in the novel. The only thing that make her more live is when she wrote the letter to Shu Huan before she commit suicide.
2. Fang Yu did not date Erh Hao, they never even met.
3. Some characters like Du Fei, adjudan (?) Liu and his family not even exist.
4. Shu Huan did not join the army and Mr. Lu did not fight the army with his gun like in the series
5. The way Mr. Lu died was very sad and lonely, is the series seems he still kind of heroic
6. Yi Ping’s hatred and difficulties is forgiving her ‘other family’ was drawn much better and clearer. Also why Shu Huan resent Yi Ping after reading her diary also drawn even better. These all has contributed to Ru Ping’s devastated feeling and lead to her committing suicide.
7. The ending was so much realistic. Not a total sad ending, the last page show there’s hope.
8. The spirit Shu Huan and Yi Ping has toward each other for some reason remind me of Heathcliff and Catherine in the Wuthering Heights, it’s fiery and in the end consume the person from inside.
