Yasuda Matsutaro hidup menyendiri dalam penyesalan. Setelah bertaon2 menyiksa istri dan anaknya. Tetangganya di apartemen kecil tempat ia hidup sendirian ternyata juga menyiksa anak. Karena perasaan bersalah dan ingin berbuat sesuatu untuk menebus dosa, ia membawa pergi anak tetangga tersebut.

Yasuda Matsutaro has lived a reprehensible life, and, now in his elder years, his past actions pain him as much as those he has hurt. For years he abused his wife and daughter, driving his wife to alcoholism and his daughter to hatred. When his wife passes away, he is left only with suffocating self-loathing and a lifetime of grave mistakes and misgivings. He gives up his home and possessions and moves to a run-down apartment, where his conscience is further racked by the constant sound of his neighbors beating their five-year-old daughter Sachi, a sound he is all too familiar with. In a desperate bid to right wrongs, Yasuda takes off with Sachi, and as the two walk into the night, they begin a journey of recovery and redemption.
